Conservation on Biological Diversity and Green Wave

The Word: Definition for Biodiversity
noun The existence of a wide variety of plant and animal species in their natural environments, which directly relates to the productivity of the ecosystem.

The problem: Who cares biodiversity?

The problem is that many animals are dying because of loss of habitats which is caused by human interactions such as deforestation, over population, global warming, and pollution.

Humans are surly affected by biodiversity because a simple theory:
No animals (plants) =no food=no humans.

The organization: Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) convened the Ad Hoc Working Group of Experts on Biological Diversity in November 1988.  The experts in this group were to take into account "the need to share costs and benefits between developed and developing countries" as well as "ways and means to support innovation by local people". On 22 May 1992, the group adopted a new name: The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) with the Nairobi Conference.
CBD entered into force on 29 December 1993. It has 3 main objectives:
1.      The conservation of biological diversity
2.      The sustainable use of the components of biological diversity
3.      The fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources
The event: one of CBD’s contribution to biodiversity

The Green Wave is a global biodiversity campaign to educate children and youth about biodiversity run by the Convention on Biological Diversity. Each year, The Green Wave will contribute to worldwide celebrations of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) mostly by planning trees. The United Nations has designated 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity. Leading aircraft manufacturer Airbus is proud to be working with CBD as partners.
In participating schools, students plant an important tree species of their local area in the schoolyard. Students from all around the world will count down to 22 May 10:00 local time altogether and then plant their tree from the east travelling to the west of the Earth.
The purpose if this yearly event since 2008 is to engage and educate young people worldwide about the crucial role biodiversity. It is also a campaign to raise awareness in children and youth.

Conclusion: Editor’s Feedback:
Finally, this biodiversity problem-to-solution breakdown is over. However, there are so many more environmental problems still affecting our lives. We have been live in Toronto, Canada every day and it is easy to think that the Earth is pretty okay. This is a myth! I have seen cities without any trees in other countries, just like some parts in downtown. When I read the Green Wave project, I remembered I could even breath the dirt in the air when I was in a city full of buildings, then I decided to research on this topic. This year, I joined Green Quest; we seem to have an opportunity to go planting. I am really looking forward to take an action.
